About the Ensemble
Our renowned composer, conductor, and educator Stanislav Binički founded the Belgrade Military Orchestra on September 26, 1899. As the first concert-style orchestra in Serbia, it laid the foundation for a proud musical tradition that has been upheld for three centuries by the Art Ensemble of the Ministry of Defence, which proudly bears the name of the pioneer of Serbian military music.
The Art Ensemble of the Ministry of Defence “Stanislav Binički” is an institution within the Public Relations Department of the Ministry. Through its diverse programs and repertoire, genre versatility, high artistic standards, and a broad range of performing capabilities, the Ensemble proudly represents and promotes the Republic of Serbia, the Ministry of Defence, and the Serbian Armed Forces to both domestic and international audiences, as well as to the professional music community.
The Ensemble is composed of the Symphonic Orchestra, the Salon Orchestra and the Mixed Choir.
As part of rich collaboration with some of the most eminent artists from Serbia and abroad, the Ensemble has performed in Great Britain, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Italy, Hungary, Romania, Germany and Russia, giving more than 80 concerts in total.
The Ensemble has travelled tens of thousands of kilometres and performed over 7.500 different musical programs for more than 5 million people, proudly showcasing the richness of Serbian musical heritage both at home and across much of Europe.
