A century of diplomatic relations between Serbia and Denmark

The ceremony to mark 100 years of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Kingdom of Denmark has been held at the Central Military Club, tonight.

The present guests were addressed by Minister of Defence Zoran Đorđević and Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy of Denmark in Belgrade Morten Skovgaard Hansen.

Minister Đorđević said that in addition to significant historical and cultural heritage of both countries, a centuries-long cooperation, that promotes exchanges at all levels, have also been very stimulating.

- Friends are supportive of one another, and I take this opportunity to thank you for your support. As defence minister, I am proud of the fact that our defence cooperation is among the top priorities of the Ministry of Defence, and that, despite the announcement of reduced support to projects of stabilization and reform of the defence system, our colleagues from Copenhagen have found a way to continue multi-year projects and finalize them, the Defence Minister said. Đorđević stressed that at the time of the biggest impact of the economic crisis that affected the world, the Kingdom of Denmark invested more than two million euros of direct investments in the reform of the Serbian defence system.

- I believe that our cooperation can be even better if in the coming period we manage to raise our military-economic cooperation to a higher level, Minister Đorđević said.

Morten Skovgaard Hansen particularly emphasized defence cooperation in which an important capacity building project was implemented in "excellent cooperation with the Serbian Ministry of Defence".

- Today, Serbia is increasingly a partner in international peacekeeping missions and you can be proud of that. "I am confident that relations between our two countries will continue to grow", Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy of Denmark said.

The ceremony at the Central Military Club was added solemnity by the members of the Prince of Denmark's Ensemble, and the Stanislav Binički Artistic Ensemble of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia.
