Three awards for Serbia in „Army of Culture" contest at International Army Games
Representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces who participated in the "Army of Culture" contest at the International Army Games in the Russian Federation, won three significant awards, they took a first and two third places in the competition where participating countries presented their history, tradition, national culture, music and folklore.
The performance of the Serbian team at this review of culture and richness of diversity at this year's army games was organized by the Public Relations Department, Ministry of Defence, and our national culture and music were presented by members of the MOD’s “Stanislav Binički” Artistic Ensemble, Zastava Film and Media Centre "ODBRANA", alongside the members of "Dimitrije Koturović" Cultural Artistic Society and prominent vocal soloists.
Young baritone soloist Milan Obradović took first place with his original presentation and performance of compositions in the Russian language, at the "Army of Culture" contest, which is an official discipline at the International Army Games as of this year.
Soloist Mina Gligorić, who received the attention of the audience at the very beginning of the competition, took third place in the female vocalists’ competition.
Based on audience votes, the third place in the five-minute music collage competition where each of the 20 participating countries presented themselves, went to the entire Serbian musical team which, in addition to the awarded soloists, included members of the "Stanislav Binički" Artistic Ensemble Major Duško Stamenković, clarinet, and Sergeant Major Branislav Ivković, accordion, as well as members of the "Dimitrije Koturović" dance troupe - Aleksa Ostojić, Jana Simić, Andjela Marković and Jovan Krstić.
A well-designed five-minute presentation of Serbia in the "Patriot" park, where the audience enjoyed Serbian folklore and Vranje Suite, tunes such as "Far away" and "This is Serbia", resulted in numerous votes that brought the Serbian team third place.
The Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces’ team competing in the "Army of Culture" contest was led by Lieutenant Colonel Goran Ikonić, director of the Military Film Centre "Zastava Film".
- Our country, along with other participants, presented the characteristics of our history, tradition and national culture at its stand in the House of Friendship, at the Alabino training ground, and on both competition and non-competition days, our singers and dancers presented Serbian music and folklore in the best way. The awards we won are a confirmation of that - Lieutenant Colonel Ikonić said.
"Army of Culture", the newest event introduced in the official competition at the International Army Games this year, gathered the largest number of participants - 20 countries. Azerbaijan, Angola, Armenia, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Venezuela, Vietnam, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Laos, Mali, Myanmar, Russia, Serbia, Syria, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka presented their culture through exhibitions put on in the House of Friendship and through musical performances given in the Central House of the Russian Army.
